Ind V SA: No Clash for the Tests' New No.1's
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Dec 9 2009

This would be have been the must see clash at the start of the year. Instead, the cricket world will have to wait to see the new No.1’s battle it out at a later date. South Africa and India are the only two teams to have shared the Test cricket’s top position since Australia held first held the mace. Now as they continue to jostle, with India displaying South Africa at the top with the home series win against Sri Lanka, the proposed tour of South Africa to India in February 2010 would have made it a fascinating encounter. But it is not to be. South Africa will now arrive in India only to play an ODI series with no chance of a Test series. The reason behind this decision have been two fold. One, being the fact that the early part of 2010 is packed with the IPL 3 and the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean. Secondly, Cricket South Africa have not been able to reschedule England’s tour of South Africa, giving players not ideal time to recuperate. With the clashes too many in the cricket calender, it appears Test cricket between the two new giants will now get a long wait.
